Splayed fingers, hidden rings.

Poetry 1995–96

things you know.
as long as you keep
touching me
i'll keep laughing,
as long as you keep
catching my breath
in your hands
i'll keep falling
for what you hold out.

things you want,
scattered all over
your wonderful space
in the village.
while all of your
friends tidy up,
fall to spring, clean
their ragged ends.
you should know better.

things you miss,
make it hard to hide,
tough to conceal.
is it more of an effort
than uncovering was?
the miss i lost,
seems to miss what
was there all the time.
take it, taken, take it!

or is the ease of loss
such a comforting
bed, that you'd lie
to keep that under
all your wrapping aswell.
